  • Leaves blocking my hopper, 30th July
Hi, I have a listed property on Frankwell and my rainwater hopper is regularly blocked by the leaf and seeds from the trees planted on Frankwell roundabout. Three times this year the hopper has been blocked, causing water to overflow down the wall and back up into the gulley and into my house. Soaking the walls. My property has a parapet roof, meaning it is not straightforward to keep the gulley clear. In fact it requires scaffold to access, at a cost of circa £1200. It only takes a few leaves or seeds washed into the hopper from the roof to block it. I'm contacted you because prior to the island being created circa 1970 there weren't trees there. This has been an issue for some years as when I purchased the property I found that plaster on the walls was falling off and when investigated there was mycelia growth popping it off the wall. I had the wall replastered in traditional lime at great expense not aware of the root cause at the time. This is a large expense for me to find every year as I'm currently not working. If I were working, it would still be a large expense for me to cover. I contacted the Shropshire Council conservative team for support in this and they said it's the responsibility of the Highways Team. I'm not sure what resolution to expect, it would break my heart to see the trees cut down. But I can't afford the remedial action. My insurer will only pay for repair of the damage (replastering and redecorating). I look forward to discussing my options with you. Regards Dan,
